Serpentine Dance
filmed in 1896 by the Lumiere Brothers (Auguste Lumière (1862-1954) and Louis Lumière (1864-1948)
Inspired by dancer Loie Fuller's famed skirt dances, in which colored lights projected onto her billowing garments, this film (and others like it) was hand-tinted to achieve similar affects. Fuller's solo was mesmerizing, and her copycat film subjects no less so.

Roshan Kumari's Famous Dance from "Jalsaghar"
The famous Kathak dancer Roshan Kumari in an early appearance in Satyajit Ray's "Jalsaghar" (The Music Room). It just gets better and better as it progresses. Note how the bells on her ankles provide part of the rhythm...

ASHES and SNOW
Ashes and Snow by Canadian artist Gregory Colbert is an installation of photographic artworks, films, and a novel in letters that travels in the Nomadic Museum, a temporary structure built exclusively to house the exhibition. The work explores the shared poetic sensibilities of human beings and animals. Ashes and Snow has traveled to Venice, New York, Santa Monica, Tokyo, and Mexico City.
